After completing his education in chemical engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly known as the University Department of Chemical Technology) in Mumbai, Mukesh Ambani joined Reliance Industries in 1981.

Under Mukesh Ambani's leadership, Reliance Industries underwent significant expansion and diversification. He played a pivotal role in transforming Reliance Industries from a primarily textile-focused business to a diversified conglomerate with interests in energy, petrochemicals, refining, retail, and telecommunications.

One of Mukesh Ambani's notable achievements was the establishment of the world's largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, Gujarat. The refinery complex has a capacity of refining 1.24 million barrels of crude oil per day. In recent years, Ambani led the launch of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a telecommunications company that disrupted the Indian telecom market with its affordable 4G data and voice services.
